Packing Suggestions?

How would you pack?

In the morning I’m off on my 8-day ride along the Erie Canal — 400 miles from Buffalo to Albany, NY.

All my packing up to this point has been geared around mild weather. A closer look at the temperature swings has sent a chill up my spine.

It’s this side trip to Cooperstown that has the lowest temps; down in the valley the range is only 20 degrees!

I bought a lightweight down coat in Boulder this spring; I’m stuffing it in. I might sleep late on some of these mornings.

  1. When riding across the US, I remember morning temperatures in the 40s in August in upstate New York. I pack a fleece vest when bicycle touring, it can pack small and light, and it can be used off the bike, or on the bike with a windbreaker over it.
