Jessica Grant, Supervising Transportation Planner

There’s been a lot of emphasis recently on bicycle-friendly streets.

Traffic reduction strategies near downtown, new infrastructure to keep the volume of vehicles low. Pedestrians and bicyclists are the beneficiaries – it feels safer navigating my way around the downtown area whether I’m on foot or on my bike.

“It’s a really exciting time to be a transportation planner in Santa Barbara.” What’s changed? “We didn’t have the funding… then In 2014 came along the State’s Active transportation program – complete game-changer.”

You don’t have to travel far from downtown to see significant improvements. “What’s really exciting for Sola, that’s the first really strong east-west connection for biking in our downtown area.”
