Eurozone Crowdfunding: Symbid’s Korstiaan Zandvliet

Korstiaan Zandvliet in Rotterdam

From the archives of the Frank Peters Show, Dec 2012.

“Everyone’s skeptical at the beginning,” says Korstiaan Zandvliet, the entrepreneur behind Symbid, but most entrepreneurs say, “Cheerio!”

Is capital formation broken in the Eurozone?
Whether it is or not, huge change is coming in the form of crowdfunding platforms like Symbid.

“Never fear when markets become more efficient,” ACA Chairman David Verrill once told me, but many angel investors feel their buttons getting pushed when the subject of equity funding via online social networks comes up.

Many think that crowdfunding will be a major disruption of business as usual for business angels, both here in the U.S. and in Europe. It’s going to turn the present process on its head.

We met in Moscow in April. EBAN asked me to moderate a panel discussion on Crowdfunding; Korstiaan Zandvliet was the entrepreneur actually building a platform to do it.

Fast forward, it’s Korstiaan who’s nominated me to participate in an event at Erasmus University in Netherlands last month. We met at his Rotterdam office which was modest like most startups, for this interview.
